old and he is growing faster than I could have ever imagined. Since Jill and I live in Atlanta and the family is back in Tennessee we don’t get to see Brenton but about once a month. We had not seen him since Christmas until this weekend and he is standing (with assistance from whatever he can pull up on) and crawling like there is no tomorrow. We had a great time seeing him along with the other family and friends that we were fortunate enough to catch up with this past weekend. Thanks to all those who love and are an encouragement to us!
has arrived. No, I am not talking about adults or even teenagers…I speak of the baby Wii phenomenon. Check out these videos. I told you it is a console that the whole family can enjoy!
socks. I know, I know, I know. Socks are made to cover the ugliest part of our bodies but when I put these things on at 5:45 this morning the first thought that went through my head was, “These are the ugliest socks I have ever seen.” Now that I think about it these things just found their way into my sock drawer. Jill so lovingly decided that she no longer wanted these socks (I can’t imagine why) so she stuck them in my drawer. I though I would give them a shot and when I took my shoes off around 12 hours later the same thought went through my head again. I don’t know who would spend so much time to make socks this ugly but it was not worth it. At least they don’t smell as bad as they look…yet.
i love this time of year when the Christmas decor comes out. We decorated our condo on Sunday night and I love the way it feels with the tree up and the lights on. It makes me want to cuddle up on the couch with Jill and fix some hot chocolate chip cookies and milk and turn on the fire and enjoy a good Christmas movie. (I must say that Home Alone 2 is my favorite). Wait…I gotta go…Jill just showed me some chocolate chip cookie dough she bought for us. Out…
i was one of those spoiled young boys who got his first NES (Nintendo Entertainment System) at the age of 6 or 7. My father had an old clecovision console…uh what ever you called those things…and when we moved to our new home it was time to hook that thing up. The problem was that we had lost a crucial piece to hook the system up to the beautiful Sony cabinet TV we had at the time. My father and I headed for Wal-mart to search for that missing piece of equipment in the electronics section. As we entered the store and headed for the electronics department we were distracted buy this isle display for this new gaming console called a Nintendo. Who had ever heard of that?? Well…as fate would have it, we could not find the part we had gone in search of and we did not want to go home empty handed. That night we left the store with my first Nintendo gaming system with Mario included and we bought Kung-Fu. What a beautiful moment when my Dad and I left the store that night we were excited to have made such a purchase. All that to say…that since then Nintendo has been the leader in the industry. Except for flukes like the Game-cube their marketing and gaming has been over the top. Just when you thought that Nintendo was down and out with opponents such as X-Box 360 and PS3 they have once again come out on top. I am willing to guess that when families gather together this holiday season there will be more excitement surround the Wii than either the X-Box 360 or the PS3. Now…I am not saying that these consoles are not excellent gaming systems but they are only for gamers. The NES on the other hand will have grandparents playing Children and everyone in between having fun. Oh…by the way…I hope that you already have one because these babies are harder to find than Jimmy Hoffa! They are possible to get it just takes some commitment and luck! And make sure to pick up a bottle Flex-All for that Wiiarm you will have over the Christmas holidays! This is a pic of a Wii gaming pack bought last Friday morning by some commitmed shoppers!
presenting to the blogosphere the coolest nephew in the world. Well ok…I am partial but I could not be more happy with my 6 month old nephew Brenton. I am officially know as “Uncle Roo” and my beautiful wife is know as “Aunt Jill-E “. We are somewhat sad to say that Brenton lives 3 hours from the ATL so we only get to see him once a month or so I do have to say that while this is hard to endure when we are apart it makes the homecoming all the more sweet. Check out these awesome pictures and video of Brenton. We love you “Little Man”!!
this time of the year it seems we find more ways to spend money than we usually do. One of the things I hate about Christmas time is that we play these games with our money. I personally am not a gambler but I know that some enjoy this type of activity but it seems like a stupid thing to me. Secret Santa, White Elephant…whatever you want to call it, this game is a waste of money. Everyone goes out and wastes 5-10 bucks (at least where I come from) on some piece of junk that no one wants. At the end of the game everyone goes home mad because the only thing they wanted is the very thing they brought themselves (that is the case for those who spent time trying to find something valuable for such a small amount of money). I am not saying that giving is bad but it basically ends up that it is a game that no one enjoys because they threw away their money. I would be surprised if someone actually had a memory of a gift they received from this type of game that did not include the trash can.
the point of this post is to encourage you to try something different this season. Instead of taking 5, 10, or whatever amount you would spend on a game like this and throwing it in the trash via a crappy gift, I would encourage you to find someone in need to give money to. The past three years our small group has given money or gifts (amount is insignificant) to a family or people in need. This seems to be a much better way of using the resources that God has given us to impact the lives of those around us.
